## Stat block

A red dragon who came through the mists forty years ago after a dead silver dragon's gold, and found the count waiting. Chained by the neck in a cavern under Mount Ghakis, wings riveted shut, kept starving on a heap of treasure, she has had forty years to grow hungry and patient and very angry. Her claws are hot as coals and her breath still fills a cave.

### Traits

- **Legendary Resistance (3/Day).** When Sarkhaza fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead, three times a day.
- **Chained.** A collar of black iron sits at the base of Sarkhaza's neck, and its chain runs back into the rock to the count's anchor. It lets her drag herself about her cavern, slowly; her Speed is 20 feet.
- **Wings Bound.** Iron bands riveted through the bone hold Sarkhaza's wings folded against her back. She has no Fly Speed.

### Actions

- **Multiattack.** Sarkhaza makes two Rend attacks.
- **Rend.** Melee Attack Roll: +12, reach 10 ft. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 7) Slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) Fire damage.
- **Fire Breath.** Dexterity Saving Throw: DC 17, each creature in a 60-foot Cone. Failure: 38 (11d6) Fire damage. Success: Half damage. Forty years of hunger have thinned it; it is still a red dragon's fire.

### Lair actions

- **The Vents Answer.** Forty years of her heat have cracked the floor of the mountain. The cracks under up to two creatures Sarkhaza can see blow out fire: each makes a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 7 (2d6) Fire damage on a failure or half as much on a success.
- **The Roof Comes Down.** Sarkhaza heaves against her chain and the heat-rotten roof cracks. Rock falls on a creature she can see: it makes a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 9 (2d8) Bludgeoning damage and falling Prone on a failure, or half the damage only on a success.
