Location Vallaki Level 5

Vallaki

Overview

A walled town on the shore of Lake Zarovich, kept cheerful by order of its Baron: a sharpened palisade, a church whose saint has gone missing, an inn of ravens, and a square where a great wicker sun waits to be burned.

A palisade of sharpened logs rings the town. The Old Svalich Road comes in at the east gate and leaves by the west, past a Vistani camp outside the walls. The burgomaster's mansion, Wachterhaus and St. Andral's Church face the square from the north; the Blue Water Inn, the coffin maker and the lockup stand to the south.

Resting: Risky: a rest here can be interrupted.

Festival notice

BY ORDER OF THE BARON VARGAS VALLAKOVICH, BURGOMASTER: The FESTIVAL OF THE BLAZING SUN will be held in the town square at noon. Every citizen will attend. Every citizen will be glad. A great sun of wicker will be lit to remind the sky what it is for. Frowning, muttering and remarks about the weather will be noted by the watch. ALL WILL BE WELL.

Decree on the fence (when not festival over)

DECREE OF THE BURGOMASTER, the ninth this month: Malcontents found spreading gloom shall spend one day in the stocks, or two if they spread it there. Lamps out at the second bell. The gates close at dusk. Gossip about the castle is gloom. Gossip about the weather is gloom. Gossip about the Baron is treason.

Decree on the fence (when vallaki backed is “baron”)

DECREE OF THE BURGOMASTER: The traitor Fiona Wachter has been taken in the act and set in the stocks for the town's instruction. Her house is forfeit to the festival fund. The next festival will be held on the seventh day, and it will be the best yet. ALL IS WELL, as was foretold.

Proclamation on the fence (when vallaki backed is “wachter”)

PROCLAMATION OF THE BURGOMISTRESS, LADY FIONA WACHTER: There will be no more festivals. Citizens may frown as they please. The curfew stands. The town gives thanks to its rightful lord for its deliverance, and will show him every courtesy when he calls.

Council notice (when vallaki backed is “neither”)

NOTICE: Until the town chooses otherwise, Vallaki is kept by a council of its householders, with Father Lucian Petrovich and Urwin Martikov to speak for it. The stocks are firewood. The curfew stands, because the night has not changed its mind. Bring grievances to the church steps, sober.
